DR. FISHKIN WINS 2014 VITALS ON-TIME DOCTOR AWARD

Dr. Fishkin was just awarded the 2014 Vitals On-Time Doctor Award. Vitals.com surveys patients to determine the amount of time they have to wait to see their doctor. Based on the results of their 2014 surveys, Dr. Fishkin's patients reported much shorter-than-average wait times.

The national average wait time to see a physician in 2014 was 20 minutes, 16 seconds. Vitals on-time doctors had an average wait time of 11 minutes. Dr. Fishkin's average, according to the survey, was 7 minutes. Our office continues to work to reduce this wait time even further. We value your time!

    January is Glaucoma Awareness Month

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. Glaucoma is a condition which causes progressive damage to the optic nerve, slowly causing a permanent loss of vision. Glaucoma affects over 2.7 million people in the USA, and it is the #1 preventable cause of blindness. Unfortunately, there are no symptoms in glaucoma's early stages, and once vision has been lost, it is permanent. If a person waits until they notice a problem, it can be too late. Glaucoma is one of the top reasons why routine eye exams are so important.

The good news about glaucoma is that with today's technology, it has become much easier to catch glaucoma early. For most people, there are treatments available to prevent vision loss. Our office is equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art equipment to effectively screen for and manage glaucoma. We perform glaucoma screening as part of our routine yearly eye exams, but an appointment can also be made specifically for glaucoma screening.

JULY IS DRY EYE DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH

July is Dry Eye Disease Awareness Month. Dry eye disease affects approximately 40 million people in the U.S. and fewer than 5% of people with dry eyes have been accurately diagnosed and are being treated.

Dry eye disease is a common, uncomfortable eye condition caused by a lack of tear production or poor quality of tears produced. Typical symptoms can include burning, itching, redness, and excess abnormal tearing. Dry eyes can interfere with contact lens comfort, and cause issues with reading or computer use.

Fortunately, since dry eye disease is so common, there are a number of methods to succesfully treat the problem. These include eye drops, nutritional supplements, lifestyle modifications, and simple in-office procedures.

If you've been experiencing dry eye symptoms, call the office and schedule a complete eye exam, including a dry eye evaluation.
